I too much prefer to see old freighters and rusty tankers slowly chugging into the harbor.

kudos to the protestors!

These huge cruise ships bring thousands of tourists on each one. It's revenue for docking, tour companies, cabs, stuff cruisers buy. But it's insane for the people who live there. Handling thousands of people for a few hours is a logistical nightmare, and there has to be constant vigilence to keep tourists safe. I don't blame residents for getting fed up with the disruption.
