I am beginning to realize that there were a lot of good movies released before 1970.

A lot more good movies back then than the garbage Hollywood turns out today.

It was an era when the country as whole was a lot more pro-family, pro-Judeo-Christian ethics, pro-patriotism and pro-capitalism than it is now. Even if Hollywood itself was not those things, they had to make their products accordingly if they wanted to sell them in the free market. In 1968, the movie ratings system came into effect and filmmakers no longer had to get their scripts pre-approved according to the Hays office to make sure they didn’t include material deemed “offensive” which is part of the reason I like so many of the movies from the pre-1968 era.
