Word For The Day, Thursday, Rocktober 10, 2013 – corrigendum
dictionaries ad nauseam | 10 October 2013 | Thursday's sub

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

corrigendum \kor-uh-JEN-dum\ noun
an error in a printed work discovered after printing and shown with its correction on a separate sheet

Example sentences:
The day after running the article, the newspaper printed a corrigendum stating that the actress had been born in 1971, not 1871 as indicated.

"In summary, the scientific literature is self-correcting through corrigenda and through reader comments. Corrections of various kinds appear at the rate of one to two per hundred journal articles, compared to which the rate of forced retractions is negligible."
— From an article by Joseph F. Grcar in American Scientist, Jan.-Feb. 2013

Etymology:
If you guessed that "corrigendum" might be connected to the word "correct," you are quite right. Both "corrigendum" and "correct" derive from the Latin verb "corrigere," which means "to correct." The noun "corrigendum" and its plural "corrigenda" came to us unaltered from Latin in the early 19th century. The verb "correct" is much older; it has been part of our language since at least the 14th century.

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Did anyone happen to hear the corrigendum provided to WI Senator Ron Johnson by Mark Levin on his show last night? HOLY CRAP, mark was treating him exactly like he would one of his callers. xshub and i were cringing listening to the tape of it that i found on twitter. Johnson said he was tired of the circular firing squad, Mark said, put down the rifle. Man alive, it was fiery.

I LOVE Levin, even if he has a horrible voice for radio. He can lay the smack down like no one else.

Mark was outstanding with his B slap to my Senator. I hat to say it, but Johnson deserved it. Johnson is a sharp guy, but he’s out of his depth here, if he thinks sweet talking the Dems is going to get him anywhere.

I called his office during Ted Cruz’s faux filibuster and told him to get himself down to the floor to help Ted out. I never received an answer. I didn’t get an answer from Tammy either, but I got a letter from Rep. Petri thanking me for my interest and assuring me that he was on my side. Petri (new to me after redistricting) never does ANYTHiNG, so I don’t know what to think.

I liked when he told him how they should have stood up shoulder to shoulder.

I realize that I’m a cynic-but I think this is the beginning of a smackdown I’ve been waiting to see since I was about 14-if that is so, then quite a few rinos-even the closet ones-are going to deeply regret the company they have kept-and been complicit with-and not just the hardcore rinos like McCain, although he and Karl Rove might look into sharing a remote bunker...

Read my twitter feed JPod and I had a discussion over this, and even he doesnt get it.

Look at it in Chess termes,

The strategy is a combination of a Pin, ( norton holmes, now between Boehner and Reid)

And a Fork, where two objects are threatened by one, resulting in the capture of one of the two.

That was ALWAYS the end game...using the debt ceiling to keep generating negative publicity on Reid, and Obama. 2014.

Ummm..yes, I am only in NY.

News is replete, with park closed signs, and republicans with free air time talking debt, debt ceiling and intransigence....

Thats why they moved to a 6 week deal. They want to keep the party going.

If thats how the NY news is covering it, imagine between the appalachians and the Rockies,

Secondarily, these guys are doing far better than Newt did against Peyronie Pete. Dems were counting on same result.

And, FWIW, this is like Fisher v. Spassky.

You will want to google the term “same old Jets fan” who cant believe that something is positive because of carrying old baggage

All thats happened for 10 days, is the libtard media giving Republicans a forum to make their case, and almost universally unopposed.

Veterans getting shut out at Normandy and DC, on tv, yeah...losing argument (though to be fair, the repubs couldn’t count on that, but it happened)

The Dems counted on this playing like 95. It isn’t
