Actually, the first two Japanese Grands Prix were in 1976 and 1977 at Fuji, after which Japan was dropped from the F1 schedule until 1987. The 1976 race at Fuji is particularly notable, as it decided the World Championship in favor of James Hunt. It was also Mario Andretti’s first F1 win for Lotus.
