Try running the cleaning function—I think one of the things it’s supposed to do is unclog heads. What I’d worry about with your plan is that the chip in the cartridge might tell the printer it had already been used when you tried to put it back in.
If that happens a message will tell you to hold down the Stop button “for a while” — all kidding aside it says hold the stop button down for 5 or ? seconds, I don’t remember which exactly.
