Lindbergh was a highly complex, and often very contradictory, person.
He wasn’t a Nazi (Hap Arnold praised him for the intelligence he brought back on the German aviation industry from his tours there). His role in the whole “America First” movement was very much overblown. A lot of the animosity towards him was manufactured by a highly vindictive FDR and Harold Ickes, not based on his ideology but how he’d stood up to their efforts to nationalize/militarize the air mail industry, and that after at least 12 Army Air Corps pilots died, per his predictions, he was proven right.
However he was clearly an Aryan supremacist. His writings and beliefs over the years (as well as his wife’s) bear this out. As do the secret children he fathered over the years with at least three German mistresses in order to perpetuate his Aryan line.
My mom always thought that Anne was the real writer of both their works. I'm betting even today, she was right.
Lindbergh is not a Nazi, but I would still characterize him as an environmental fascist.
