Why isn't the name Boston "Celtics" considered racist?

Playing Devil's Advocate: Because the word "Celtic" doesn't define a visible,unchangeable, physical characteristic.

I bet there would be an uproar, however, if we changed the name from the Boston Celtics to the Boston Gingers, Boston Whiskey's, or the Irish Curses.

Question: Is the issue with the name "Redskins" or the reference to Native Americans," in general? I ask because I haven't learned of any serious complaints about the Cleveland Indians, KC Chiefs, or Atlanta Braves (except for the "chop').

I would assume that Seltic is correct in that the sports team beloved by every Irishman Glasgow Celtic is also pronounced Seltic, not Keltic.

To change the names of teams from American-Indian names is a way to lose American history and to particularly lose American-Indian history. It is all deceit and deception. For the under educated the only link they have to the past are these names and symbols. So once they remove names and representation of American-Indians, what is next? Will they decide to remove all evidence of the existence of the American-Indian? Will we have to change the names of all of our places? Should we rename our States, Towns, rivers, lakes, mountains after today’s liberals? Or words that represent the liberal agenda?

Open letter to Dan Snyder and the Redskins:

Dear Mr. Snyder,
Do not change the name Redskins. There is nothing racist or offensive about the name. One must not give in to blackmail and extortion for then there will be no end. What will be the next demand? And there surely will be one. Perhaps demands that you relinquish part of the ownership of the team to make up for the decades of "pain and anguish" the name Redskins has caused? Your critics will go on to say changing the name is an admission that you have done wrong and for this you must pay.

This reminds me of the old Soviet Union, of 1984 and other dystopias in fiction. For all these years nobody was offended by the name Redskins and now suddenly it is “Oh the horror, it;s racist!” This is a fake issue, just part of the ultra leftist agenda. I hope Snyder as enough backbone to ignore it.

Nobody objects when NFL players disrespect women, have illegitimate children whom they neglect, get into fights, etc. However, there is a huge fuss over the name Redskins that in no way harms anybody.
