With a lopsided defeat well in hand, the Washington State Cougars had other business to take care of Saturday night against the No. 2 Oregon Ducks.

For their late effort, Cougars quarterback Connor Halliday set a Football Bowl Subdivision record for pass attempts with 89 -- and drew the ire of Duck defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti.

Aliotti called it a "low class" move by Washington State coach Mike Leach.

This guy couldn't be more wrong. What a sore winner. How can he say his opponents shouldn't try. His team was winning by a lot. If he doesn't want the other team to score, he can leave his starters in. If he wants to put backups in, doesn't he want to them to get experience?

My coach always said it is our job to stop them from scoring, if we can’t, we deserve to be embarrassed.

In fairness, he apologized the next day for making these stupid comments. Which they were. I could understand an objection to the WINNING team’s running up the score, but it’s silly to complain about the losing team trying to close the gap.

He did apologize? I hadn’t seen that. He really should. Especially, calling Leech, “low class,” for that. I hope Washington State has that date circled next year. ESPN seems to be pushing his angle.

Yeah, the full article goes on to say he apologized. (Who knows if it was sincere. But I’ll bet he had even OREGON fans bitching him out for Saturday’s comments.!)

Mike Leach, you are welcome to come to Gainesville, anytime.

He’s the closest thing to Spurrier out there (next to Spurrier, of course)

....and this is why nearly everyone outside of the Peoples Republic of Eugene hates the Duck program

Hasn’t a Florid coach won more National Championships since Spurrier?

If not for Spurrier, UF never would have gotten that coach.

Before Spurrier, UF had Zero, Zilch, Nada, SEC titles in either football or basketball.

I don’t care if he is coaching at another SEC school, I will NEVER say one bad thing about him.

Meyer on the other hand, can GTH.

Leach is a lot like Spurrier....though I don’t think Leach will ever run the football no matter what the score is. Spurrier would run when he had Fred Taylor or Errict Rhett to hand off to...or a Marcus Lattimore and Mike Davis like he has now at SC

Coaches who complain about “running up the score” usually have no defense...on the field or for their comments

Roger that. It did after Pat Dye too. A common thread that ran through several coaches with ties to Bear Bryant.

Connor Halliday will be playing in the NFL some day. Smart kid with a quick-release cannon for an arm. Throws the square-out pass as well as anyone in college football and better than many in the NFL.

If for no other reason, Mike Leach is making it far easier to recruit QBs and receivers to Wazzu in Pullman.

WSU is the only college that has a former student who can more than compete with the money Phil Knight gives to Oregon; if that former student chooses to do so.

I’m sure there are other former 49ers QBs you could get to coach Florida.
