In a Republic each state would be free to have as much government as they want. It does not need to be at the Federal level. The NY's CA's etc. could regulate to their little heart's desire.

But that would require Liberals being tolerant of other viewpoints being expressed in the other states, which they are not. They must impose their will on the masses and not allow a dissenting view, or having a relatively easy way out of their subjugation, like moving to another state with more freedoms.

So, they must do everything at the Federal level...

Exactly.
Our original republic was supposed to be almost like a “confederation” of independent countries, just joined together for supporting the bare minimum of overarching needs that should be addressed at the Federal level. But control freak liberals have to have their agenda pushed onto every state. If they would just let it go to that, and as you said, regulate and give entitlements to their hearts content in their states (without making the other states pay for their handouts) and leave the rest of us alone, we might actually be able to save the country from splitting up!

So true.

This idiot even figured that out, somewhat:

Since past progressive reforms have failed to transform southern culture or conservative populists he suggested leaving them to “live by the values they prefer.” But that sounded a bit like saying it would be acceptable for almost half the US – or half the world, for that matter – to live under repressive conditions and various forms of fundamentalism
