These are Sawyer filters. They are good at removing biological contaminants. They DO NOT filter out chemicals or heavy metals.

Look at the Aquacera Ceracarb. About $40 on Amazon. Doulton makes a similar one too. They both filter out everything.

An illuminating concept.

That does seem like a good idea. However, you should never store water in that type of jug, even if you bought the water in the jug. After a few months that flimsy plastic deteriorates, and they leak. I know this from personal experience. One of the best ways to store clean drinking water is in food-grade 5 gallon buckets with lids, because they’re sturdy and airtight. You can buy new, clean ones at large hardware stores like Home Depot, and they are very inexpensive.

Yep, I discovered the problem with the 2.5 gallon jugs, not sure about the 1 gallon type yet. Do you add the chlorine or just refresh them every few months? Thanks.

One should not depend exclusively on chlorine for disinfection of water. Some organisms are resistant.

For instance, E. coli takes less than a minute, while Giardia takes about an hour to disinfect in chlorinated water, and Cryptosporidium takes something like 12 days.

So let me get this right, it is an LED light strapped to a plastic water jug, will it work with a clear water jug or must it be like a milk jug.

I live in Florida and electricity always goes out in storms, I just have a bunch of flashlights and candles, this looks interesting lighting a whole room and all.

Many have had questions for you on the concept, maybe you should share the original link?

No link as it was simply a photo grab with other photo shots ... other than used for camping trips no instructions etc. were given....I wondered if the milk jug had water in it or not but assuming it does or would tip over.

There weren’t any details at all...just a photo grab among a page of photos.

I would think a milk jug would be best....if a clear one the light would just pass through it I think. It likely has water in it else would tip over.....but thanks for mentioning it’s a LED light. I have no clue about flashlights...dah. Like flicking a light in a room...if it works that’s all I need to know lolol.

My brother and his wife live in Florida too... your right I bet it would work good for storms.

Has to be water in it or it wouldn’t be stable...I would think.

I’ve been looking at some of these filters and ways to store water...golly it seems overwhelming as if you need a chemical factory to be sure it’s safe...and more than one means of storing and delivery. Might be just cause I’m new at this but it does seem a complicated affair to store water safely and keep it filtered for safe drinking.
