I've used the Sawyer PointOne filter for camping and backpacking without any problems. It's compact, good for a million gallons and rated at 0.1 microns. They run around $30. They recently came out with a mini version as well for just around $20.

That's what it is. Waves for Water is a charitable organization that sells and delivers Sawyer filters to places that need them. Very nice of them but it's probably cheaper to eliminate the middle man. Thanks for pointing it out.
