Cows certainly do get out of the pasture. We have one pasture that is about 1/2 mile down the road from the main ranch and my husband would move cows occasionally from one place to the other down a small county road.

He hasn't moved cows down the road from one pasture to another in many years. When that used to happened it was usually a pretty big herd and there was a truck driving slowly behind with lights flashing and several cowboys on horse back herding them. That is the old way, now they trailer them.

I think hitting a cow is much worse than hitting a deer, they are so much bigger.

I actually ate cow road kill last wednesday and it was delicious. To be honest, the car only mortally wounded it. It was in front of my friends house on the road and he shot it and dragged it onto the property where he butchered it. He butchers all of his pigs, cows, sheep and chickens himself.

But the guy that hit this cow was never brought up on charges.
