Please pray for my Mia.
6 November 2013 | self

My little Eskie girl, Mia, is at VREC to have an MRI this afternoon. It was supposed to be for an issue with her back, but the neurologist is concerned she may have a brain tumor. Mia is blind from birth & the most amazing creature I've ever met. She is my hero. She's been right next to me for 7 years & I am just freakin out. I don't know what I would do without her.

I will be remembering you, as well as the person who posted about Mia. I know exactly how you feel.

God love you, and prayers up! I understand your heart having just experienced the loss of my Maxwell. I can tell you this, my FRiends here helped me every step of the way and I could not have gotten through it without them. You and Mia are in good hands, the first being God and secondly the compassionate people of Free Republic. Read the posts, the sharing and uplifting messages are the best.

I lost my 18 year old basenji last month, it never gets easier. But they trust us to do what is best for them, even if they don’t understand.

Thank you, Toespi. I’m so sorry about Maxwell. It’s hard. They just become so much a part of us.
It helps so much to know that there is that solid wall of prayer if I get scared or worry too much.

TalBlack & fieldmarshaldj, Thank you!

seeker41 & ColdOne, the neurologist called me as I was starting this reply.

NO BRAIN TUMOR!!!! Her brain isn’t normal, but it isn’t going to necessarily affect her quality of life. She said it looks kind of like Alzheimers, but it must translate differently in dogs. Miss Mu is a little too sharp for my own good. She made it through the anesthesia “just great”.
One more hurdle. They did a spinal tap esp since they really didn’t find anything & it *could* show meningitis or cancer (lymphoma) but I’m not as worried about that. Her bloodwork last week was great.

We get to see her between 9 & 10 & it’s going to be a little easer to get through the night. I imagine she’s going to stomp those little feet, but she’ll forgive me.

Thank you all so much for your prayers! I was very, very, very scared. A brain tumor had crossed my mind (What IF?) & Mia was acting funny about going to the vet last week & today, which isn’t like her & it scared me even more.

I am so grateful.

No, it doesn’t. It’s kind of controlled, I guess, but you never really get over it. Basenjis are such cool dogs. I’m so sorry you lost him. (They are having some kind of celebration up there.)

mitch, I’m so sorry. It’s so painful losing them. There is no safer place to be than in God’s Hands, though. We will surely be with them again.

So happy about Mia, thanks for letting us know. When she comes home give her a big hug and a treat for me:)

BTW-I had a weenie dog named Carmolina who had two blown cervical disks in her neck that required a specialist at “Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists” (http://www.gcvs.com/) in Houston. She needed complex surgery on her neck to the tune of 3,500.00 years ago. I would have begged, borrowed or stolen to see she had the procedure. She recovered just fine and lived a nice long life.

What a cutie! *Her* chair, no doubt. (I’m betting they are all her chairs. Same here. Cats aren’t the only ones with servants.)

I’m familiar with Gulf Coast (before VREC, I think they were affiliated with the Emergency Clinic here. I’m with you. Whatever it takes. If you are ever in San Antonio & have a veterinary emergency (or need a specialist), VREC is outstanding. They’re all expensive, but whatever. As long as the care is excellent.
A great part of what made this day bearable is knowing that at least 2 (& now, 3) of the vets & the head of nursing there are so fantastic. It is beyond the competence & actually the way they interact with the dogs/ animals.

Toespi, Oh, isn’t it the truth! I haven’t slept well in a week & hardly at all the last 24 hours. I probably ought to put a bag over my head. We are going to have a celebration dinner tomorrow night!

Miss Mu is HOME!! We stopped by McDonald’s for breakfast & had our usual melee & a good walk. She’s having a nice nap now.
I got to visit her last night. She was a little cool & subdued, but she was good. Not dopey. Not particularly annoyed, just not her usual vivacious self.

Aside from having them shaving the back of her head between her ears, down to about the middle of her neck, she is none the worse for wear, apparently. She’ll be needing a hat or a scarf to keep the sun off. Gotta figure out how to work that with her ears.

The vet called about half an hour ago & the spinal tap thing was “perfectly normal”. I am inexpressibly grateful for all the prayers on her behalf.

Thanks.

I’m very familiar with the neighborhood, but it’s a little north of where I grew up. Or I used to be. It’s changed so much.

My grandparents & grandmother’s family are buried in the cemetery in Blanco. That is where the homestead was, near the Guadalupe River. (the Texas “branch”) My great aunt & uncle lived in Hill Country Village off of 281.
(Not sure I’ll ever get used to Texas State instead of “Southwest”. LOVED San Marcos- especially Pick A Taco Mexican Restaurant)
