A Pasadena City College professor is on paid administrative leave after a student alleged the 64-year-old instructor hit him during class.

KNX1070′s Vytas Safronikas reports Mark McQueen, who teaches English at the school, was conducting class on October 31 when a student allegedly stood up, shouted expletives and raised his fist.

McQueen says he raised his arm to protect himself from a potential blow. The student contends he was struck.

Pasadena City College spokeswoman Valerie Wardlaw said Wednesday investigators are looking into the complaint.

“It’s the district’s responsibility to protect the safety of all employees and students and to investigate any and all complaints of misconduct. The investigator will investigate both sides of the story and after evaluating all of the evidence will determine which allegations are sustained and which are not,” she said.

“The professor continues to be in good standing. He is receiving his regular pay during the investigation. And he and the student are both shielded from any further incident during the course of this investigation.”

Wardlaw declined to comment further, citing the ongoing investigation

AS this happened during class, there should be many witnesses, as other students can provide information of what happened.

I’m clearly doing something seriously wrong in my life. Nobody has ever given me ‘paid administrative leave’, ‘buyouts’, ‘nonessential furloughs with eventual back pay,’ grants or bailouts.

I would think so — but this is the post-Clinton generation we are talking about.

I have grave doubts whether today’s JC students are either reliable or truthful.

I had a French teacher who called a girl a “itch” during class. He should have been fired.

“When a student allegedly stood up, shouted expletives and raised his fist”

Only professors get to do that.

It would be interesting to know the CONTENT of the dispute - the WHY - but the journalist apparently does not believe in the archaic “5 w’s” principle (who, what, where, when, and WHY).

Was she being one? Fire if it was high school French. But if she was an adult college student, maybe she needed to be called out.

If he did hit him he should have left more evidence.

It was high school and she was debating something with him but the teacher was one of those who believes in because I said so instead of logic, he was a presumptuous little pos
