I always turn ON a faucet to drip slowly inside when it freezes to keep the pipes from freezing-there is always at least some water in a pipe, unless you turn off all water, and turn on every faucet until no more water comes out. I forgot to drip the water one night when we first moved here-it got down to 22, and a pipe to the pump burst-it was a bitch to find the break and repair it, too...

we just turn off the water to the outside and haven’t had any issues with a burst pipe since doing so, thank the Lord!

Yes, I let all faucets in the house drip a bit, but again only when it is near zero outside.
