I respectfully disagree.
Bullies respond best to an unexpected punch in the head, proverbial as well as physical. Legal action would likely disarm him, and even a RO would force him to maintain a distance. Keep in mind that the last thing that this guy wants is, as a cop, to be thrown into jail. Moreover, you’re building a paper trail that backs up and is supported by the reasons for the firing. If multiple officers were threatened, multiple officers should respond with the same legal recourse.
If that isn’t suggestive enough, then it’s time to meet the next personal threat with whatever level of brutal, overwhelming force is appropriate to the confrontation.
I think your over reacting. It’s my experience that people who make threats almost NEVER Cary them out. It’s the quiet type who think they have been abused that you have to worry about.
If you treat people fairly you have nothing to worry about.
Welcome to the real world.
Been there done that.
Now you know what it’s like to be targeted by a psycho cop.
How’s it feel?
At least he no longer has the protection of the “code of silence” of other cops would he if he was still on the force like the rest of us have to deal with.
From first hand experience he will try and make it look like an accident or try and set it up to pin it on someone else that anyone he targets will be a casualty in the line of duty.
Bump that!
well usually bad ones don’t get what is coming to them so you are luckier than most to see it happen
Praying for you and all who are threatened by this person.
That's one of the most ridiculous statements I've seen on FR for a very long time. Especially in a situation as described. You are most likely a future recipient of the Darwin award.
Maybe I'm not understanding what you mean by this, but it sounds like you mean that you have snitched on fellow officers many times. Do you work for IA? Do other officers suspect that you do? Does he?
“If you treat people fairly you have nothing to worry about.”
You that’s a ridiculous statement? What have you been smoking Bubba?
I bet your mother told you something similar to this when you were young...
...it is always possible that the poster lost a family member, friend or a dog to the police at some point.
Send your family out of town immediately!! Have your go-bag on your person/in vehicle at all times. This ‘officer of the law’ is past a no-return point. He has made numerous viable threats to not only you/family but to others around him. Your department is in CYA mode and not thinking of officers in this perps immediate vicinity. PLEASE watch your 6!
Hey...I'm an 'old man'...I can't think of EVERYTHING! :-)
You're right, of course...you can never recover lost time.
On eBay for about $30 you can buy a covert video recorder made to look like a Bluetooth phone thingy for when people want to talk on the phone while driving —where you look it records video and sound, all in secret.
You’re packing so that’s good. Make sure you don’t have a GPS logger inside your wheel well or under your bumper.
Wear your vest and steer clear of your usual spots. When driving vary your route and sometimes suddenly pull over.
As a cop I think u know all this, but still.

I faced something similar recently. If I gave you the details it would sound too crazy, and by a wide, wide margin.
Sending prayers for your safety and that of your family.
