You are correct. I know several Chinese who believe in Buddhism as a way of life, and believe in Jesus as their savior. They say the two paths are in perfect concordance.

This may have been a figure of speech to avoid a lengthy explanation where one wasn't appropriate.

depends on which buddhist denomination: Theravada do not, but many Mahayana sub-sects do
