With its huge population, most of Chicago is actually safe. It's the small handful of black and hispanic neighborhoods that are literal war zones and contribute almost entirely to the violent crime that leads headlines.
Incidentally, I couldn't help but notice something common about almost all the names of "white" murder victims on the link you provided.
They probably don’t include Chicongo because they’re so blatant about fudging their crime statistics (especially homicide), that the FBI won’t even use them.
