Yeah, it’s more like the stinky layabout no-account relative showed up with a gun and demanded to stay at your house.
Christian healthsharing ministries.
Because Im a Rich Republican, I expect to be able to make up for whatever shortfalls Medicare has in the future, even if it means going offshore to accomplish it.
Fortunately I’m working and have employer health insurance. I will be 63 next March. Premium went up $100 per month but the deductible remained at $1500. Hope to stay with this until Medicare.
Keep in mind, not only is there developing a “cash only” health care market in this country, you can go to several other countries and get many things done for 1/4 of what they would cost here.
I am not just talking about going to a dentist in Mexico. I know a buddy who went to Montreal to get lasic eye surgery done, because it was not covered by his insurance here. It was half price of the clinics around here. He made it into a vacation.
I think this will become more common place over the coming decade. US doctors will bail on the US and set up shop in a country that does not cost as much to “operate”. Consider what some of the specialists pay these days for malpractice insurance. If you save a MILLION dollars on insurance you can afford to make a lot less.
We’re resisting. We’ve looked outside of the exchanges, and it will STILL devastate my family. I’m boiling mad over this. I’m sick and tired of the gov’ment finding ANY angle at all to pull money out of our pockets. I don’t know what will happen. I hear conflicting things. What’s truth anymore? Put a lien on our house? Really? Confiscate money from your bank account? Is that possible?
I'm planning on using cash as well, but I'm certain the feds will begin ratcheting up the pain level for those who do real soon.
A guy I know WANTED teeth implants. In the US it was $40,000. I took him to Costa Rica, $8000. He paid my airfare, I went fishing. Cost me more to send my fish home FedEx than all the rest.
Shoot him after he digs a hole in the backyard?
I had some work done here with this dentist back in Feb, and that worked out fine.
I’m in a similar situation as you except that I’m single and much younger. I will keep my personal physician who has recently left a hospital based partnership and opened a concierge hc delivery model. So I’ll pay the fine. Err- tax. Well, irrespective of the “sage” SC ruling it’s a penalty or fine, in truth, isn’t it?
I read it but missed your irony — too much holiday joy juice last night. But as I read further down the thread I ran across several posters who seem to believe Medicare will be around for them.
LOL If you encounter anyone under 40 who's banking on social security, tip me off, if you please, kind Sir. I have a hot investment they might be interested in...
Good. Let Medicare collapse along with Obamacare.
Only if you get sick during the open enrollment period.
The one thing that will help out Medicare (and SocSec) is the IPAB (death panels).
That is never mentioned by the govt or media but each year sliced off the life expectancy is HUGE for the funding projections.
I’m sure that was a big discussion item (and never written down) among the writers of Obamacare.
The penalty is 1% of income the first year. Cheaper than premiums but still significant.
I’ve been fortunate. I’m with a good company that has a plan that didn’t get affected by Obamacare. And Dad is on a Medicare Advantage plan that didn’t get affected.
Under 0bama, isn’t Medicare becoming the new Medicaid? (Less quality of coverage and/or limited pool of docs?)
Wasn’t that Dr Ezekiel’s (Emanuel) ~ HusseinCare contributor ~ plan, all along?
