Mike Tomlin, Steelers could face ‘stiff financial penalties’ and possible loss of draft pick

the NFL has performed 'an aggressive review' of the play in question, where Tomiln appeared to intentionally get in the path of Baltimore kick returner Jacoby Jones on a could-be touchdown, forcing Jones to alter his route and run towards a Pittsburgh defender.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin was caught by television cameras Thursday night with a big smile on his face after his positioning on a third-quarter kick return from Ravens receiver Jacoby Jones — in which Tomlin had part of his right foot on the field as he watched the return on the video board with his back to the play — forced Jones to cut inside, allowing cornerback Cortez Allen to catch up and make the tackle, preventing a touchdown. The Ravens scored a field goal on the possession and won 22-20.

...

Tomlin’s timing couldn’t have been worse for him because according to FOX Sports, the NFL sent video the day before Thanksgiving to all 32 teams warning them about sideline interference.

When former Jets strength and conditioning coach Sal Alosi intentionally tripped Dolphins corner Nolan Carroll on a Dolphins punt

I bet 90 percent of the players support Obama. I guess you won’t be watching any football.

Does anybody here know if Jacoby Jones or Cortez Allen has the faster foot speed? I’ve heard people say that Allen would have caught Jones and tackled him anyway, but I’ve also read articles praising the fast foot speed of Jones so he may have been able to outrun Allen if not for the redirect caused by the interference.

The ancient Greeks placed marble statues of the cheaters in a row that everyone had to walk past on the way into the original Olympic stadium. They are there to this day, and in many cases, you may still read the names.

If we could yet be shamed, I would vote for a statue of the cheater. Alas, without shame, there is no deterrent.

All glory was fleeting, so only a laurel, made from a bush or plant, was given the victor. But the cheaters were made immortal.

We don’t live in those times any longer.

Allen’s pretty fast. I think he may have caught Jones regardless.

Jacoby was increasing the distance between himself and his tacklers, until he had to slow down in order not to run into Tomlin. He kept thinking that Tomlin would move. It’s not as if Jacoby snuck up on the Steeler coach. He was running from a punt return!!!!

I would have run right through him. If he’s on the field, he’s fair game.

I think Tomlin may be heading for the chopping block which is too bad as he's been a good head coach. But it has been a poor year for the Steelers and you can't fire the whole team.

They had to win this game to have even an outside chance at a post season slot. I think you are just seeing the pent-up frustration from a season which started out really bad. Tomlin is a good guy, but he stepped in it here.

I would have run right through him.

And would have been slowed down then tackled. He was playing to win.

They’re not going to fire Tomlin, the Steelers don’t run the quick hook on headcoaches, Cowher had 3 7-9 season in a row. They might fire Hailey though, the offense has been crap since he took over.

Yes, but he was trying not to. No way you could hit someone standing still, significantly hit them, and not slow down.

Tomlin's an idiot when it comes to politics, just like Dan Rooney. I don't know who in the h*ll he thinks are going to buy tickets to NFL games once BO succeeds in his mission of destroying the middle class.

But I don't think he supports BO because he shares the ideology, just the skin color.

You could be right, but remember that Cowher was working with a number of up and coming young players (who later took the Steelers to the Super Bowl) during his three losing season.

Tomlin is still depending way to much on players clearly past their prime, like Big Ben. Ben may still be one of the best quarterbacks in the league, but he's clearly not what he once was. And it isn't just poor protection, though that's a big part.
