There were a lot of technology off-shoots that we almost never hear about it.

“If Japan and Germany just had one extra year, we would have been in a world of hurt.”
If Germany had extended the war even 6 months they would have been nuked. The A-bomb was being readied with Germany in mind. As it turned out, they collapsed first.

(The Naval Treaties were quite effective in preventing WWII, eh?)I've heard it argued that they made WWII in the Pacific possible. With limitations on both Brit and US navies, they couldn't control both the Atlantic and the Pacific, so they focused on the Atlantic. This gave the Japs a chance to dominate the Pacific, even within the limitations of the treaties. Arms limitation treaties always work to the advantage of the aggressor.

One of those smaller Japanese subs actually launched a plane that bombed Oregon. The pilot avoided populated areas and dropped an incendiary in the forest with the idea of setting off a cataclysmic forest fire. They must not have known how damp the Pacific Northwest usually is.
