Something that I have used that works well is adding strong coffee. It's the bitter of the chocolate that works so well in savory cooking like that. Coffee works, just not quite the same.

I was going to whine about the bitter cold here in Wisconsin (no snow on the ground now; it all melted away last week), but I can see that you have much more on your plate. Was your granddaughter’s house under construction? How did the fire start? Thank God that the family is all right.
I did get out the long underwear today for the first time in 3 years, and I’m glad. When your morning news warns not to allow any skin to be exposed when going outdoors, you know that it’s going to be a cold one!
I just remembered that I should have put up Christmas decorations outdoors a couple of weeks ago when it was warmer. I forget about that every year. It looks like they’ll stay in the basement now until next year and everybody will think that an old scrooge and his wife live in this house. It is so cold (about 9) that you really cannot stand to be outdoors for even a minute to hang a garland. I do have a Thanksgiving/Christmas wreath on the door that I put up before a dinner party that I hosted November 16. It will just have to do for the season.

LOL! I understand the situation about the lights! This year I found a couple of $10.oo lights in the shape of an angel and a snowflake. I’m gonna hang those with my lighted Christmas wreath and call it good!

I’m on 12 acres at the top of a hill in Wisconsin, and I never have to rake leaves. They all blow away. I also go through 2-3 flags per year, thanks to the wind and weather. If I were ever to move, I’d have to look for another windswept location, as I’m too old and out of practice raking leaves.
When I lived in WA state, I had Western Red Maple leaves that were as large as a dinner plate. When they got wet (which was all the time out there), they stuck hard to anything they touched. They could do serious damage to your lawn.
We’ve been in this house since 10/2002, and while there were no large trees terribly close when we bought it, they have grown much taller since then. We plan to remove some of them. We had trees fall on our old house, and it wasn’t fun.

Almost every insurance policy we have home, car, life, health is going up. Plus, in spite of our actual usage of electricity going down, our bill is going up 50 bucks per month. Income will be going down at least 200 bucks. Que Sera Sera.
While I wuz out watering the pup, I noticed a bloom on a mum that has had no luv other than an occasional watering since bringing in the plants a month ago. I couldn’t believe it, seeing a bloom out there in all that gloom and death.
We have lots of mums in our annuals pots because Lowes puts them on the reduced racks when their blooms start looking puny. My wife buys them up for nearly nothing and deadheads them and then... new blooms.
That’s what I do with my lemon tree. It almost always sets more fruit than it could possibly produce. If I don’t snip off some, it will drop a bunch all by itself. So I then them out in order to balance out the weight on each limb, as well as orientation to the sunlight.
She just turned four and is doing great. Four years seems to be the age when Corgis reach adulthood, that was the case with Jake as well. She is sweeter than ever.

My Dad was a WW2 vet and he talked about the South Pacific ALL the time. Finally when I was about 39, I went to the island of Kauai on a timeshare. I have been back many times and love the lore of the Islands.
I have been to Pearl Harbor a number of times and actually played a gig for the 55th reunion of the Massachusetts Survivors.
They all had on their Pearl Grey Forage Caps, Hawaiian Shirts, Leis, and danced better than people half their age.

No snow here in CoMO so far. The starter for my tractor has been repaired so with any good luck I’ll have that thing back working some time tomorrow.
