Meritocracy. It’s part of the government-college-human resources complex. You can never get there unless you buy your way in through a useless degree in a subject that has nothing to do with your prospective line of work.
The wealthiest individuals in the US ditched college to persue their own goals, and succeeded. They see this avenue as a potential source of competition, and will do whatever it takes to make sure that doesn’t happen.
