In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
importune (im-pawr-TOON, im-pawr-TYOON, im-PAWR-chuhn) \ tr. verb
To ask someone, repeatedly or annoyingly, to do something.
Example sentence:
"José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, Spain's prime minister, has cast dignity aside and importuned all and sundry with a request to be invited to a conference."
---After the Fiesta; The Economist (London, UK); Nov 6, 2008.
Etymology:
From Latin importunus, from in- (not) + portus (port, refuge). Ultimately from the Indo-European root per- (to lead, pass over), which also gave us support, comport, petroleum, sport, passport, petrify, colporteur (a peddler of religious books), Swedish fartlek (a training technique), Norwegian fjord(bay), and Sanskrit parvat (mountain). Earliest documented use: 1530.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

And an A+ for you too.
I’ve never seen the show but have friends who do and they rave about it. It really is alarming that biblical beliefs may not be expressed in the public square.
I have been live streaming season 1 of DD. I happened onto the show a few weeks ago and loved it.
We were just watching it last night. Love that show. Hard to pick a favorite character. I was hoping we’d hear Missy sing because she has a beautiful voice.
I importune you to understand my reluctance to accept your new enthusiasm. Just because you agree with someone else does not mean that they agree with you.
The epitome of an importune would be “Hail to the Chief”.
I must importune the unfortunate mushbrains in leadership to allow us to fix the roof in the data center lest we find ourselves broke and soaked.
?? I do agree with Phil Robertson’s right to freely express his religious beliefs. And I laugh at his show. Does the relationship have to go further than that?
“Buy Obamacare,” rappers importune
In a commercial; it’s not a poor tune
But the product they’re selling
Isn’t very compelling
It’s so bad, even liberals lampoon
It’s a nicer word than nag, especially when you’re trying to save them from drastic consequences. A for you.
