Reality Shows Uncomfortable With Reality
Self | December 25, 2013 | PJ-Comix

The basic problem with "Duck Dynasty" AND all other "Reality" Shows is that they are uncomfortable with Reality. With Duck Dynasty, A&E basically wanted something like the Beverly Hillbillies but it got away from them with talk about religion. However, Duck Dynasty is not the only "Reality" Show uncomfortable with reality. Here are some other shows that had to tangle with bits of uncomfortable reality that they tried to suppress:

Storage Wars: The best REAL moment on that show was when Mark, who worked for Jarrod and Brandi angrily quit. Apparently he was getting tired of Jarrod and Brandi making all the show bucks and he got stiffed while having to do the heavy loading work. I loved that moment when he angrily walked out on them amidst heavy cursing. Jarrod just acted embarrassed and I wished that the Storage War producers had followed up with an interview with Mark but that was not to be. Too real for them.

Big Brother 1: One of the house guests turned out to be a member of the New Black Panther Party. Julie Chen acted completely embarrassed by that slipup in vetting him but tough luck. A reality moment that CBS was very uncomfortable with.

Housewives of New Jersey: I actually don't follow that but didn't one of them get busted for fraud?

I am sure there are other examples of uncomfortable reality intruding in on the scripted "Reality" shows. Please post examples here.

How about a “Giancarlo Giannini meets Mariangela Melato” moment on Survivor.

I’d pay a dollar to see that!

"Free speech" is one thing, but in today's America you have to make allowances for the extreme sensitivity of some very delicate and gentle-hearted groups.

I used to work right near Jarrod and Brandi’s store and had a coworker that thought Brandi was hot (I don’t) so I popped in there one day at lunch to see what the big deal was. Nothing but junk and a couple of shady employees that looked like they were placed there by a halfway house. Whatever happened to all the “treasures” they find in every locker every week? </rhetorical>

They could look all over their big cities and find much better examples of ignorance than honey boo boo.

Angel Adams comes to mind, they should do a series on her!

" honey boo boo is southern stupidity at some of its worst."

Southern stupidity? No. I'm a born & raised Southerner, have lived here all my life, and I have never seen anyone like those people.

I have never watched Honey Boo Boo. One time I watched some program about Emergency Room cases. When the program was over I did not change the channel and Honey Boo Boo was on. They were all sitting on the couch and one girl was picking her nose and sticking the bugger in her mouth. I changed the channel immediately.

Who needs to watch a little kid pick their nose when we've got a president to do that?

I have a real life of my own, why would I use up some of the few precious moments I have left on this earth by watching somebody else’s fake life?

Same reason you are wasting your time writing about it here I guess.
