Good evening all. I am thinking of either signing up for Hulu Plus or Netflix. Can someone tell me what the difference is between the two? Advantages and disadvantages? Thank you in advance for your replies.
hulu plus has more current TV shows
Netflix has a download side and a mailing side. We have the mailing side (which has many more movies available than the download side). We love it. We stopped TV reception 6 years ago and would never go back. We pick the movies we want to watch, no commercials. great service.
Unless they have changed, Hulu Plus still inserts short commercials in their programs, even though they are a subscription service.
Netfix does not.
Current TV shows may be in Hulu quicker. Netflix usually does not have them until long after the DVD has been out.
I prefer Netflix.
Check Crackle.com. It insert sort commercials in, but it has no subscription fee. It is a Sony service. It has some pretty good movies and short programs.

All you need is a $30 Chromecast, and you’re ready to stream Netflix to your TV.
Netflix: Dumps shows on per season, so for the next season of say Psych have to wait. Commercial free.
Hulu: Gets shows on a per episode basis, but is NOT commercial free, even if you pay for Hulu Plus.
Neither has all shows of course but I picked Netflix because I refuse to pay for something, then get fed commercial breaks. I wouldn’t mind so much if there was just one or two at the beginning of the show, but they utilize every standard network commercial break.
...we don’t have the download speeds required for decent streaming so are completely ignorant of Hulu...but we have no complaints at all with Netflix mail service.
We have Netflix. I like Lillyhammer(a Sopranos like comedy and is very good) and House of Cards (extremely compelling and very well done) as Netflix original programming.
Netflix has less current programming, and a mixed bag for movies.
I like that the series’ like Lillyhammer and HoC is “dumped” all at once, so they put up 10 episodes and you can watch them all at once or take your time.
Do some searching. Iirc netflix will soon get out of the mailing biz. Can u afford to start with both
Netflix has some good original stuff. Not so familiar with hulu.
Get Amazon Prime and Netflix. HuluPlus is overrated, unless you like TV shows.
Thanks to Netflix, I discovered the British shows “The IT Crowd” and “Sherlock”.
I have used Netflix as 90% of my viewing for a couple of years.
Other free channels on my Roku which I use too include PBS mostly for some UK content. There is some overlap, where older seasons may be on Netflix, and newer ones on free PBS.
And free Smithsonian, for a few of their programs.
Another channel I just discovered is free Viewster, which has some international content, since it is Swiss based.

No disagreement, but don’t you wind up using your smartphone as a remote?
Hulu+ gets TV shows faster than Netflix, but Hulu+ has only a few crappy B movies (and trailers for current movies).
Netflix has better movies and no commercials.
I’m cancelling my Hulu+ this month.
I also found The IT Crowd via Netflix.
That program is so geeky that I have LOL so much I had tears in my eyes. It is a kind of humor computer geeks from the 1990s can identify with.
Netflix is the better of the two by far.
Hulu has commercials, I had lots of streaming problems with Hulu, I couldn’t wait to cancel Hulu.
Crackle has become unwatchable with ads shown over and over in a half hour tv show.

Much better than Apple TV and going around clicking on letters on a screen to do a search.
Actually I bought an $80 Android tablet that’s perfect for using with Chromecast. And with Chromecast I can also cast my movies and photos easily, if they are stored in Dropbox.
I use Nintendo. It cost a lot more than $30, but then Chromecast doesn’t have so many fun games. ;^)
