The United States hockey team came very close to adding a veteran presence to its roster Wednesday when it accidentally invited a 67-year-old Canadian to join the squad.
Before Team USA announced its Olympic roster for the Winter Games, text messages were sent to potential players, letting them know they would be contacted if they made the team. One lucky man in Toronto presumably thought his childhood dreams were coming true, though, when he received a message intended for Vancouver Canucks forward Ryan Kesler informing him that he would be representing the United States in Sochi.
Apparently, Kesler had changed his phone number, but the new owner of his digits wasnt about to let his age or citizenship get in the way of jumping at an offer that doesnt come around often.
