good thing to know. I wonder how many freepers know how to make white lightening...my dad, born in 1901 could make anything into alcohol. We always had a big jug of cider full of raisins and a gizmo on top to let the fumes (I think that what it was for) out so it didn't blow up. That made hard cider. He and his buddy, who just happen to be the sheriff of Sugar Island would go up there, make a still and bring a few gallons of “stuff” for drinking. To age the “stuff” they tied a barrel of liquor onto the back of Chets boat and run the St Marys river (always rough and separated the US from Canada) and said they did that to age the shine. His generation knew how to make anything into booze. He passed in 1988. That generation took a lot of knowledge with them when they passed away. He talked about his dad making his own salve to stop bleeding when they castrated all the pigs. A good cough medicine was equal parts of whiskey, lemon and honey. It did the job when my kids were small. You only gave a teaspoon for kids and a tablespoon for adults, but had to shake it up good before taking to mix all the ingredients that had a tendency to separate. Had another medication but needed creosote and the drug store was out of it and wasn't going to order more. (back when drug stores were just drug stores and magazines) In my area it was Rexall drugs...

Putting vodka in a small, fine-mist spray bottle is an excellent mosquito killer. It knocks them down and makes them squirm & die, and it’s not nearly as toxic for pets and kids as commercial bug sprays are. And it’s less expensive when you buy the cheap stuff that comes in plastic bottles. I refuse to drink vodka myself, because it gives me a headache. But I’m glad I found a practical use for those fifths of vodka that my grandpa stored up in the attic when he went on the wagon.

The older two have taken sips of beer

I think every little kid has to try it once.

“I think every little kid has to try it once. “

Yeah, I remember having a few sips as a kid when on the rare occurrence my dad would have one. I remember spitting it out most of the time. Oddly enough, somewhere around 18 I developed a keen taste for the stuff. Weird, eh?

At the bottom of article: 35 Ways to Use a Bandana

I used to give a survival lecture to military flyers I called "101 uses for a neckerchief."

I always asked for more suggestions and got plenty."

Your “101 Ways” list would be a great one to post here for the preppers and readers, in general. Just thinking.

Sugar Island is an interesting place and I don’t doubt anything coming from there.

as a kid, at times we’d get off the farry and the road would be covered with water, well it really wasn’t a road, more like 2 tracks in the dirt if the water was high...I have a picture of me holding a big pike in each hand. Nice fishing, that would be late 40’s to mid 50’s.
