We are having these cryoseisms in VT too. This is not really an issue about it being uncommonly cold. -4F is only moderately cold really.
The real issue is that it got cold right after we had a lot of rain. It’s not very common around here to have rain and then get subzero temps right afterwards.

I spent last Thursday night in a small town in central Quebec (well north of Montreal) and the temp when I arrived (8PM) was -42C (about -44F) and at 8AM Friday morning it was -40C (about -40F).Didn't hear any booms though...but was pleased to hear the sound of my car starting.

***Drenchero?***
Drenchero, drechero. Whatever they call it. It is just a sownpour to me. I had to look it up last year after a big rainstorm and all the weathermen were calling it by that new name.

It’s just a huge dense cold high pressure system locked in place over eastern Canada and reinforced by the jet stream so it keeps spinning and sending cold air our way. Most Winters it kind of sits over Greenland farther East. All high and low pressure systems are types of vortexes. The Elites are just trying to sound all scary!

A bit of warmer moist air is sending freezing rain to the North east so it’s not surprising Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal are a little warmer..but everything is ‘sposed to chill again Monday into Tuesday.

Heard the booms or thunder up in Alaska on a lake there. Clear bright day and cold, and you hear thunder or a loud rumbling boom

Its 31 tonight in NE PA. Feels like a heat wave. It's 74 at the moment here in Delray Beach... I won't complain.

“Cryoseisms” is the word for the day.

He just filed to run for reelection as mayor. The election is in October. We’ll see if he can pull a Marion Barry and get reelected.
