He’s a Golden Retriever, and I researched the breed extensively. Cookey’s parents were very nice dogs and neither came from field dog lines.

Our previous dog was an English Pointer who had gone mad and had to be euthanized. I really loved that dog, so his descent into madness was heartbreaking.

My field-bred English Springer bitch, Mickey, is a sweety. She is very birdy but has a rear leg with a slipping kneecap, a minor problem, not worth correcting medically. Plus she is terrified of gunfire.

Our backyard is roomy enough that the dogs get plenty of exercise but I can’t take them for walks. Cookey is too hyper for that unless it is a miles long walk. I have arthritis in my hips now, so that is out of the question.

Well, probably it’s just youthful exuberance then, and not much you can do about that. Unless you want to get him a prescription for doggie-ritalin :)
