Years ago, I accompanied a friend to a hospital, where she was to pick up her just-deceased father's personal effects. He had been standing in line inside a Brooklyn bank to deposit his Social Security check, wearing upper-echelon casual clothing and an expensive leather jacket. He dropped dead while in line. I think it was a heart attack.

The SS check had disappeared, along with the expensive leather jacket, the clothing--everything but his underwear. We figured someone in the bank grabbed the check out of his hand after he dropped dead, and various EMT and hospital staff relieved him of the expensive clothing.

Truly disgusting.

That is disgusting. The people who do these things must have no moral conscience at all. What are the chances that a man passing away suddenly would be robbed by multiple people around him and even the hospital personnel? I’m convinced there are far more sociopathic monsters around us than we realize sometimes.

I wouldn’t be so quick to assume that the clothing was stolen - cardiac resuscitation attempts can get pretty massy - torn clothing, bodily fluids, etc. It wouldn’t be surprising if the clothing was destroyed in the process.

The check, on the other hand....
