Drove from TX to Racine WI in Feb ‘66, with FIL, wife and 18 m/o daughter. Horribly cold from OK, up through Chicago and to Racine, with lots of snow. ..........Was -24 in Racine and we spent 5 days there just visiting with the eight married siblings of FIL, drinking tons of coffee and loads of kringle. Nights were at local bars where beer ruled and family groups were gathered. ...Great family community and small town atmosphere where it seemed everyone knew one another.

I spent most of days with layered clothing and my Navy peacoat sitting on the floor near a heat register. One day they challenged me to do a tobaggan run down a steep hill. I was barely a third of the way down when the liquids froze up in my nose and I could barely breathe when I reached the end. They had to help me into the car. ...I was physically fit and only 23 at the time! ....It’s been in the teens here in TX the past few days, and at 71 I am suffering!
