Good for Baseball, and good the Yankees. I assume they don’t have to pay him now.

He's 38.

Forced retirement.

I think it’s time for the Rod to hang up his cleats and start doing liberal, pre-games sob stories on ESPN.

He was already suspended last summer. He lost the appeal.

I read a couple of days ago that his decision was about forfeiting 13M in salary vs. 10M in legal fees to fight the ruling. It seemed to be mainly about the cost.

Good riddance.

Too bad the Rangers can’t recover all that money they continued to pay him while he was playing in New York.

Tigers fan here. I could care less.

Jhonny Peralta and Prince are gone and the current replacemnt (Iglesias) is athletic enough. Miggy can carry the team ONLY as required but, his production should be dropping off soon.

If this team doesn’t get to the WS in 2014, they are “done” for a term and will need to make a rebuild effort.

My thoughts? No WS 2014 and an outside shot at a WS in the coming 10 years depending on internal development and Lehmann’s situation; Jim L ain’t no Sparky but he might pull off a good run at the playoffs before he gets fired.

(NOTE TO MANGEMENT: Don’t throw away ^real^ talent!).

Tigers and “The Playoffs” in 2014 aren’t a viable consideration, IMHO.

Another nail in the coffin of the man who would save baseball from the likes of Barry Bonds.

so much for him challenging Barry Bonds all time home run record.

Then again, who knows if fans would be excited to watch a suspected user challenge the record of another suspected user. Baseball statistics are just not going to be as important to fans as they once were.

Unfortunate. The Yankees just got a reprieve from a massively stupid contract.

and it’s going to be hard to out bid them for tanaka now.

Good to see A-Rod’s sorry ass out for 2014, sad to see the Yankees escape the consequences of their stupid contract. And on what grounds did the arbitrator decide to reduce baseball’s initial 211 game suspension?

if mlb really wanted to end this, they wouldn’t just penalize the player, they would penalize the team, as well.

there is no way the yankees didn’t know that this guy was dirty.

I heard the 50 game reduction will restore about $9 million in salary!
