If that is the case — if this is LEO — then it will have a HappyJoy setting.

I’m betting the owner already weighed the risks of retrieval and would not respond to any outreach.

Well, in that case, I would have a new firearm.

AW HELL, no I don't, it JUST went overboard in a tragic boating accident!

I found a tire in the trunk of a rental car one time. I sold it to help pay to fill the car up with gas before I returned it.

Dang. Hadn’t thought of that. LOL! But a co-worker and I rented a car one time in NJ that was soooooooo bad he wanted to leave a “present” under the spare tire. May not have been noticeable until summer though. Stankyeeeeee!

“All returned vehicles are completely gone through before being rented to the next customer.”

BWAHAHAHahahahaha... Very funny.

Yeah. Like the one I brought back after 300 yards (didn’t make “miles”) with a flat tire. Sure they check ‘em. (Smelled like vomit as well.)

‘s OK, though — they gave us a nice upgrade (after I pointed out the flat in front of a bunch of other customers).

Folks; if you rent a car, check contents and CHECK THE DAMAGE against what is listed on the contract. (Found problems there also.) I check the trunk, etc also...

“There is no freaking way someone is going to leave that AR in car with knowing it’s missing. This has to be a joke.”

Unless it was a government employee.

I've been renting cars for business and vacation for 20+ years and never had an experience as you describe. Cars have always come to me spotless and and good working order. I also see how hard the people there work to turn the cars around. They have it down to a science.

At the top tier (Hertz, Avis, Budget, etc.), the competition is fierce and they cannot afford to piss off their customers with poor service. In fact, the car rental industry has immensely improved their customer service over the years. I remember in the early 1980s having to stand in lines for hours before I got my car along with a ton of paperwork. Now I get off the plane, walk to my pre-assigned parking space and I'm driving out of the airport with my car less then 10 minutes after getting my luggage. This industry has improved by leaps and bounds.

You must be renting your cars from some second-tier outfit.

Damn, I'm getting really forgetful. Can you please send me my rifle. I'll pay all shipping costs and even send you a reward.

But think about it, they vacuum the cars out between rentals. That rifle would have been found.

Best explanation so far ... might have been a PI that rented it though.

Just rented (assuming just before posted on the 12th)... when the picture has been up on that site for 3 days? I don’t think so.

I’d be like ‘’What, you left what in the back seat!?! An AR_15? You put an AR-15 in the back seat of a rental car that I rented and you’re asking me where it is!?! Are you f**king nuts!?! I got a good mind to call the cops you a-holes! Give me my deposit back!.

“You must be renting your cars from some second-tier outfit. “

It was one of the first tire (Avis, Hertz) at Charlotte NC airport with the flat/vomit. I don’t care enought to dig out my records to find out.

In any case, my advice to all stands: Check the car inside and out and verify the damage report in the contract.

Agree. This would make larger news than simply a post on the net.

The quote from the woman who found the gun was pathetic:

That same day, Judith Fleissig, 58, of Rochester, N.Y., rented the same Rogue. She later found the gun, valued at $2,000, secured in its case in the back seat, according to the report. Her daughter unzipped the bag and said, “ ‘Oh my God, it’s a gun.’ I said, ‘I think I’m going to throw up,’ ”

She's just lucky she didn't touch it. It would have lept up, and begun firing all by itself. One of those shots would have gone up in the air, and put out the sun.
