It wasn’t a terribly well thought-out plan. If anything, I think it was probably something like a show of force - “mess with us, and we can shut your town down.”

The intent, I think, is to hurt the people who elected the mayor and/or enrage the voters against the mayor....yes it is petty

The only thing I can think up was that it was an attempt to hurt business in the town. I know when I run into traffic delays I certainly wouldn’t blame the mayor of the town nearest to the highway, that would just be stupid.

I asked that same question on another forum the day after it broke. Never got an answer.

If I’m in a freeway traffic jam in the Twin Cities I don’t think “That dang Mayor of Coon Rapids. I’d sure like to give him a piece of my mind!”

This may be reaching, but around here, when there are inconvenient and/or poorly planned traffic delays for road construction or whatever, people seem to blame the mayor. The annoyances may be remembered at the ballot box.

It seems like the venal gravy-sucking pigs who did this might not have been so well-thought-out.

Sokolich wrote to Baroni on Sept. 12 that not only did the Authority’s decision “wreak havoc’’ on Fort Lee, but “adding insult to injury, many members of the public have indicated to me that the Port Authority Police Officers are advising commuters in response to their complaints that this traffic debacle is the result of a decision that I, as the Mayor, recently made.”

Someone here posted that they saw Rachel Maddow of all people connect an interesting set of dots. At the time Christie was in the middle of a big fight with democrats over a Supreme Court nominee and the day before the "traffic problems" e-mail went out he exploded about how the dems opposing his nominee were animals. The leader of that dem oppposition in the State Senate was from the district where Fort Lee is. Coincidence? Maybe but I think using the bridge as leverage to punish a political opponent makes more sense than trying to punish a dem mayor for not endorsing a RINO governor.

Here's a link:
Maybe even Rachel Maddow can get one right sometimes

Just one of the many questions. I have wondered the same thing.

Be honest with the assignment. I haven’t watched the video, but my guess is that David does ‘get it’ and disagrees. Write the paper about why you relate to him and then argue well against the BS.

Christie’s bud, the one that took the 5th, was at the bridge at 7 am on the first day it was shut down.Would be great to have a pic to see who he was with...and if they resembled Cheshire cats.

It wasn’t like he shut down the government like Obama did so what’s the beef.

I have been making that same comment on the various Christie threads.

I think I have an answer.

The ‘geniuses’ at the DNC who are prepping for Hillary’s Prez Run were worried about Christie running.

They saw the reaction of the public to Obama closing various public landmarks, and noticed the ‘right’ using it to attack Obama (which makes sense, btw)

So.... they copied that premise and tried to use it to attack Christie. Even though it doesn’t apply.

The idea that Christie or one of his aids could simply arrange to have a major construction crew show up to close the bridge, based on a political whim, seems very ludicrous.

Major construction such as lane closures on a bridge are planned and scheduled far in advance of the actual closure, and their had to be some kind of repair needed, else it would not have even been considered.

Back to your point. The only ‘way’ that I can see people blaming the Mayor (when his office wasn’t even responsible for the lane closure) is because that’s what the media ‘reporters’ wrote in their articles. Other than that, the ‘idea’ has no standing at all.

The G W Bridge is a huge revenue producer. Over 100,000 vehicles cross it daily taking in a reported $1 million a day. With New Jersey politics the way they are the somebodys gotta have a hand in it’s operation and share in the revenue. Very likely Fort Lee pols have a big share of this in city and their pocket revenues.

maybe some of the crony-capitalist RINOS among Christies top aids actually understood the lane closures would be a net political positive for the mayor, as no one but no one locally thinks, or would have thought, any of it was under his control

we learned months ago, in other circumstances, where our political opponents were made part of soome GOP staff - like the fornmer Soros open borders guy who became a top staffer to Rubio’s staff

maybe there are such “moles” who went with Christie just to get his confidence, not that they cared one twit about any policy position of his - maybe they will be seen in the months ahead joining those rooting for Billary

well; we can be paranoid can’t we? /LOL
