He wasn't hired for just one store, but for a shopping center. From the article:

HPD said the owner of the shopping center recently hired officers to work security due to break-ins at the businesses.

My guess is we will find out the dead man had at least one warrant out for his arrest. If this had happened to me, I would have been sitting still and figuring out how much I could sue the shopping center for unlawful arrest - not shoving the officer, running away and then charging him in such a manner.

There is nothing illegal about looking at bicycles in a window.

I think we'll find out he has a warrant or two out for his arrest.

Still, you are not required to give your name and to show your papers to a police officer if you are doing nothing illegal.

Well, he did more than just refuse to give his name.

probably true. i would have done the same as you if it got to that point.

i think though the guy was in cop mode rather than security guard mode and the cop escalated this into a situation that he believed allowed him to shoot the guy.

If it is true that the guy charged with a hand in his pocket and yelling what he is alleged to have yelled, I think just about anyone would be justified in using lethal force under the circumstances, because there clearly was an implied threat of violence in his actions. Recall that Travyon was not armed yet was well on his way to killing Zimmerman after attacking him.

There are many uses of excessive force out there, but if the basic story holds up I don't think this is one of those.

So looking in windows is illegal in Houston?

These steroid addicted cops are out of control.

The story is missing details. It says that they were looking into a bike store and then the suspect rode off on a bike. Was the bike his or did it belong to the store? The bike doesn't look valuable enough to constitute felony theft if it belonged to the store.

They also have slightly different statements. One has the suspect saying "I'm not going to jail" and the other says "I'm not going BACK to jail".

Still not worth getting shot over.

Zimmerman never cornered the guy anywhere. Looking into private residences with a bag of tools (a break-in bag) and someone looking into a store window that purposely displays items in those windows, are not the same thing.

A security guard (who is also a cop) is not a guy who decided NOT to be a cop but was just a ccw neighborhood watch volunteer, not even on volunteer time, running an errand at the time, is not the same thing.

This guard reverted into COP mode. Security guards are not cops and the jurisdiction is different and hunting perps down off the mall in an alley is I believe, over the top. I believe it showed he was in COP mode and not security guard mode andymore.

And I would also add to the not worth getting shot over, not worth hunting the guy down and shooting him.

In referring to Zimmerman, I am saying that one does not need to actually see a weapon to have reason to fear for one’s life in such a situation.

I agree, but the situation wouldn’t have gotten that far if the guard wouldn’t have chased him down into an alley like a COP. For looking into a damn store window. Why have windows on the store displaying the bikes, then if you’re gonna go after anyone who stands there and looks at the bikes?

The mentality of cops today is so different. They are not peace officers. Fifty years ago cops would not let a situation get to this point and they’d know how to deal with it without having to kill a person.

Now wait a minute. Here we have a thread where the anti-LEO do not call proponents of the final result, boot-lickers. How can that be?

Fifty years ago they just went around wacking with billy clubs, had no Miranda warnings, and some detentions could be brutal.

Paradise.

That’s better than being shot for looking into a store window. It’s better than now “Officer Safety Above All Else, Including Your Rights”. It’s better than now where all dogs are potential target practice. Even the ones fenced in in their own back yards.

That’s the badgemonkeys story and he’s sticking to it.....at least as long as no video appears to prove
he’s lying.
