Indians did plenty of wheeling and dealing of their own contrary to the popular fantasy that they were ignorant primitives who didn’t know what ownership meant.
They did own slaves themselves and did help whites track down runaway slaves as well.
You will never convince some people of that.
I have had some tell me, apparently serious, that the Indians didn't really "farm" they just planted fields and left them while they went off to hunt during the summer. They then came back in the fall to harvest what was left.
I have to wonder if this person ever had a garden.
