he Daily Caller’s worst teacher of the week is a no-brainer this time: it’s Thomas Washburn, an Arizona kindergarten teacher who was yelling at all the kids in his class. Then, when one little girl got scared and hid her face in her shirt, Washburn allegedly removed her shirt completely, leaving her naked from the waist up.
The little girl is six years old, reports local television station KTVK.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at Adams Elementary School in the Phoenix suburb of Mesa.
Police say Washburn, 54, was hollering at the 25 kids in his class for some reason. The little girl, described by her mother as “developmentally delayed” due to a premature birth, was frightened. Consequently, she hid her face down in her shirt.
Washburn did not like this response. He told the girl to stop hiding her face. She didn’t listen, probably because she was even more scared.

This is unacceptable. If the child is not behaving send her to the principal’s office. Make her sit in the corner. Removing a person’s clothes pretty much constitutes assault and I hope the kid’s parents press as many charges and file as many suits as they can.

This is not normal behavior for a 54 year old man. Anyone who has never met a man that could be trusted around children needs to make some serious changes in their life. This is not normal.
I would imagine that if ANY 54 year old man took clothes off my 6 year old child he and I would have some serious problems.
Kind of like going home (in my day) and saying “Sister Mary ___ hit/slapped/fill in the blank” and the first reaction is YOU get it again. THEN the parent guardian etc checks in with Sister Mary ______ to get her side of the story.
When returning to school the next day, Sister Mary _____ and you would have a little talk about ‘carrying tales home from school’.
I had my share of rulers on the knuckles and ‘kissed’ the Cross on occasion but didn’t really ‘share’ with my parent(s).
In those days ‘working people’ in that part of NYS tended to be Democrats - I guess because the D’s were for the little guy and the R’s were nothing but ‘rich Robber Barons’ that is probably one of the main reasons I ‘turned out so bad’....an 18 year old Irish Catholic from NY State that was a Republican or leaned in that direction, was surely demented. <: <: back in 1956 ..

Back in the 40’s/50’s parents just automatically thought Father ______ and Sister Mary _______ were DIRECT agents of God and if they ‘hit’ you, it was good enough reason (at first).
Hence, the main reason why parents in that era (and if carried over to some of the students) and beyond would have ‘trouble’ believing their Angelic Altar Boy Johnny if he said Father ________ were ‘touching him’.
So Johnny just wouldn’t ‘mention’ it.
However, if one of those big, burly Irish fathers that tended to be Police or Fire or Construction would have suspected Father _____ were ‘handling their son ‘that way’’, there surely would have been Hell to pay.

I agree with you. The District my kids went to school in and that I taught in has a “special” handout sheet/instruction for men that are teaching/subbing. Things to avoid doing so a man would not get accused of perversion.
Since 2006, he has tenure. Probably why he wasn’t fired when he might have started appearing as a little “off”.
I went home and never said a word. (I walked to screwl back then).

I’m a guy, and in the 1960’d my first grade (female) teacher would yell at students (almost always boys), sometimes push them, and, in my case, walked up to me as I was sitting at my desk and then hit me on the shoulder with a pile of books, slightly injuring my shoulder. The teacher claimed I used the eraser on the end of the pencil too much!
Nothing happened to the teacher, but my parents weren’t pleased.
I hope the little girl is Hispanic with older brothers, uncles and cousins. “La familia” has a way of taking care of things like this. Sometimes justice is not delivered in a court of law.
Not usually my style but I would love to beat the snot out of this piss poor excuse of a man. Sorry sack of dung. Not only did he shame and humiliate her— he took away her defensive mechanism. He had already scared her so badly that she hid, his anger was more than she could handle. He boils my blood badly...very badly.
Evidently this guy had applied to become a foster father as well, a single, 54 year old foster parent.
This perv should not be teaching school, nor should he be allowed to adopt. He is major league creepy.
