Do you know a book called Why Don’t Students Like School? I imagine they like it even less these days. One of the major themes is that people must learn facts before they can become experts and think abstractly.
If a teacher will stand up and lecture a class, that lesson will be given an Unsatisfactory. Enough of those, the teacher is fired. It is during LECTURES that you give the students the vocabulary and basic concepts they need to go on to “higher thinking”. So, with Commie Core, the teacher must stand back and watch the students basically teach themselves. And what if you don’t like or agree with the text the students are reading? There is no room given for individuality in the classroom or different teaching styles.
