Melanie Safka’s “Brand New Key”

When first released, “Brand New Key” was banned by some radio stations because some saw sexual innuendo in the lyrics. It was a multi-million 70s tune. She had other top 40s hits but nothing like “I Got A Brand New Pair of Roller Skates, You Got A Brand New Key”. It was one of those tunes you couldn’t get out of your mind.

“Brand New Key” was used in the film ‘Boogie Nights’. It was the first time I’d ever the song, and I glommed on to the innuendo right away.

I loved Melanie as a kid.

Loved her song “Lay Down”.
