The First 48 Makes Millions Off Imprisoning Innocents

No one thought twice about the gunshots. It was just before midnight on NW 77th Street in Little Haiti. At that time of night, neighbors would later tell police, they often hear gunfire. Usually, it's some jacked addict playing around like a fool. Other times, it's significantly worse. But in this Miami neighborhood, where nearly one in 60 is a victim of violent crime, you don't mess with someone else's business.

This is ridiculous. 98% of the perps on that show admit to the crime!

They point out that 15 people had murder charges dropped after the show stopped filming. I am wondering how many of these were from plea deals or become a witness for the state.

TV makes cops want to look smarter than they are so they make arrests that don’t stick and jail the wrong people.

The Lede of this article in Miami New Times is totally wrong... like it’s A&E’s fault. I don’t care for them but they’re only the messenger. Miami demands money and A&E refuses... so what? The other thing is the article makes profit look bad. Typical liberal reporter. Wonder where his salary comes from? Maybe from writing stories about innocents being thrown in jail? LOL...

A lot of times the charges are dropped because the witnesses refuse to come to the courthouse to testify. Also it is that if they don’t get “a lead” in the first 48 hours that the crime becomes harder to solve.

I think the newspaper does not like “The First 48 Hours” because I would say at least 85% of the perpetrators black.

The show opens your eyes to why there is such a large permanent underclass and a “pipeline from school to jail.” Most of the perps, and many of the victims, don’t have two brain cells to rub together. People that dumb and ineducable used to do the menial but respectable jobs illegal immigrants now do because Americans won’t. If Taiwan gets a big payout, he’ll blow it on dope and bling and, if still alive, will be flat broke again within 90 days.

The premise of the show is that if police do not get a “lead” or information about a crime during the first forty eight hours after the crime is discovered the crime becomes statistically less likely to be solved.

Police are under pressure everywhere to clear cases and inevitably corners are cut sending innocent people to jail.

Hardly the fault of a t.v. show.

There could be many reasons charges are later dropped. None of them being the cops fault, or proving the criminal is innocent. Could be an eye witness later recanted - maybe due to intimidation. I remember on one particular episode, it was a murder of a witness who had witnessed a robbery. The robbery suspect’s girlfriend had the witness murdered. In those neighborhoods it is hard to get anyone to talk, not alone show up for a trial.

This is the reality of the blackamoor (BM) underclass of New Orleans. Incredibly ignorant and vicious and proud of it. In 1960 New Orleans population was around 600K and the murder rate was about 6 a month. Last year there was (seriously) a big deal made out of NOLA homicides being less than 150 for the first time in 15 years. New Orleans population is now about 350K. The reality that cannot be mentioned (and I have had local talk radio screeners tell me this) ever, ever, ever, is how much more violent and murderous the BM’s are today than back in the bad old days of Jim Crow. The dimwit blacks also have no comprehension as to why , after decades of black political control of much of the city government, their lives are such crap. It has to be Whitey's fault. That is the mindset, ignorant, vicious and incapable of accepting any responsibility for anything.

RTFA, and you’ll see that that they are sometimes coerced. The one guy “confessed” to arguing with the victim in a language he doesn’t even speak.

They sign a release and get paid. When they’re told they’ll be paid a fee the response is typically “For real? Call my cousin! He’ll say anything if you’ll pay him! Can I get ten percent?”

I do remember a cop from Memphis on the First 48 had egg on his face when someone else admitted guilt. He kept saying how shocked he was and how he was going to be more open minded. I wonder what would have happened if the cameras hadn’t been there.

I had an ex-cop tell me he saw another cop plant drugs on a black guy. The cop said “He didn’t have any drugs on him tonight. But I guarantee you he had drugs on him last week.”

One of the problems with being a cop is that they deal with criminals so much, they think everyone is a criminal.

Ridiculous article. Very few of the crimes depicted are actually solved in 48 hours. Many shows depict investigations that go on for months.

It is a fascinating show however, as it does show how police investigations work, with most crimes being solved due to either witness/informers are the fact that video cameras are so pervasive that many crimes are caught on tape.

And the real cherry on top is that most of the ignorant, stupid criminals actually confess on tape in the interview room with the most obvious ploys by the cops like, “Well, we heard from Little Red that you shot Skeeter 12 times, but we’d like to hear your version of how many times you shot him.” And the shooter says, “Oh, no way. Little red is lying. I only shot Skeeter twice. Can I go home now?”
