Nope. A cat is just another rodent as far as Bowser is concerned.

I remember the best dog we ever had. Old Richard was born in 1947 and died in 1956. At some times he was just unbelievable.

He did have one fault. He hated cats. We always had a few pet cats and us kids would try to make Richard make up with them.

He would take it for a little while as we put the cats up to his nose. Then after a few seconds we could tell he just couldn’t stand it any more and would put the cat up a tree.

"Until the cat and dog are comfortable with each other, supervise their interactions and provide a way for the cat to escape,"

There is the one important element in the article. My dog is 140 pounds from the time we got him at five months he was always told to leave the cats alone, now at five years old the cats bully him terribly.

Well, Bowser is real lucky that he does not live within .223 range of my front door.

Bowser stays in his yard and is free to exterminate as many rodents as he pleases.

Ridiculous. Our Aussie cattle dog was fine with our cats. We now have two Catahoulas that are the huntingest dogs you will ever see and they love our cats. They even love the new stray kittens we have brought home.
Dogs are like kids. They will act like you raise them. Properly adjusted dogs will follow the pack leaders lead.
Heck, we even have a German Shepherd that was an Air Force security dog. She had never dealt with cats and had no idea that she was not supposed to eat them. She learned and now cleans the newest kitten. She gets along with all of the other cats as well.

When we got our Rottweiler puppy we had two adult cats. He grew up with them bossing him around and never got over it. They’d take his food away from him whenever they felt like it.

Trace, the Schipperke watch dog here, will not molest the chickens unless he spots a particular item of leftover on the drive way, and even then he drives them away from it rather gingerly until he determines if it is worthy of his attention.

The two times a cat came through our wire, he was all over them.

Squirrels get his attention, too.

Foxes can’t stand him.

An officious little dog (22 pounds).

My Ranger is a Katrina rescue. I suspect that in the storm's aftermath he did what he had to in order to survive...I've never been able to break him of his cat aggression...

I would definitely expand on this list. On the other hand, there are several breeds who are trained to *not* kill, but do other things, that would likely be fine with cats, even if they annoyed them.

I’ve got a clipped female pit and an unclipped male half german shepherd half pit. An unclipped tom cat and a clipped queen. And an unclipped male rat terrior, and a female chi, uh, chiwawa, uh, chihuawa, whatever. They all get along very well, play together endlessly, and help each other watch out for the horses, rats, snakes, and coyotes.
