We live on a large ranch far from town and have both inside and outside cats. (as well as inside and outside dogs- who get along well with the cats)
The ‘barn cats’ live long and happy lives, thank you.
If your cats lived in town they would be subject to catching diseases from feral cats and being killed by dogs or run over by cars. Yours have the barn for protection and probably keep it free of rats. That works out well for them.
We have a ranch too, our ranch cats were killed by coyotes.
