What you said reminds me of this -

Matthew 25

14 For even as a man going into a far country, called his servants, and delivered to them his goods;

15 And to one he gave five talents, and to another two, and to another one, to every one according to his proper ability: and immediately he took his journey.

16 And he that had received the five talents, went his way, and traded with the same, and gained other five.

17 And in like manner he that had received the two, gained other two.

18 But he that had received the one, going his way digged into the earth, and hid his lord's money.

19 But after a long time the lord of those servants came, and reckoned with them.

20 And he that had received the five talents coming, brought other five talents, saying: Lord, thou didst deliver to me five talents, behold I have gained other five over and above.

21 His lord said to him: Well done, good and faithful servant, because thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will place thee over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

22 And he also that had received the two talents came and said: Lord, thou deliveredst two talents to me: behold I have gained other two.

23 His lord said to him: Well done, good and faithful servant: because thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will place thee over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

24 But he that had received the one talent, came and said: Lord, I know that thou art a hard man; thou reapest where thou hast not sown, and gatherest where thou hast not strewed.

25 And being afraid I went and hid thy talent in the earth: behold here thou hast that which is thine.

26 And his lord answering, said to him: Wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sow not, and gather where I have not strewed:

27 Thou oughtest therefore to have committed my money to the bankers, and at my coming I should have received my own with usury.

28 Take ye away therefore the talent from him, and give it to him that hath ten talents.

29 For to every one that hath shall be given, and he shall abound: but from him that hath not, that also which he seemeth to have shall be taken away.

30 And the unprofitable servant cast ye out into the exterior darkness. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Even back then, God knew that there will be people who will waste their talents.

They need to EDUCATE players about economics first. Same goes for those heading into a career in Music. Look what Col. Parker did to Elvis as an example.

They get these kids out of HS or 1 year of college where they are never given a real class in how to handle and manage their money.

We have a ‘small amount’ of money by today's standards to leave to our kids and grands. We are a blended set of seniors. We tied our entire estate up in TRUSTS. By doing this you avoid Probate, no will busters, no gold diggers, or lawsuits if the named person in the trust is ever sued, they can't touch that money. Nor can a disinherited parent who is a spendaholic take money from a trust for their minor child that has been set up for College or trade school, with a trusted Trustee and with balance at age 30, when they might just have some thing besides mush in their brains to think with.

I set it so my grandson will get tuition and book money only. Want more GET a PT JOB! If there is a true provable emergency the Trustee has the power to administer a set amount for it up until age 30. Our Estate is now in a joint Marital trust, then into trusts for those who will be getting the funds upon both of us passing away, You can make your surviving spouse the Trustee of that Marital trust. Only personal objects can be fought over, and even specific ones can be put in the trust.

Expensive, but air tight. And the firm that sets it up works with the persons named in the trusts. You get a big binder full on law stuff and Affiliated power of attorney's.

This reminds me of Mike Tyson (among others). You can take a fool out of the ghetto, but you can’t take the folly out of a fool. Give morons like these a bunch of money and all you have are rich morons.

All he has to do is go back to Austin. There are plenty of millionaire alums more than willing to bank roll him for what he brought to Texas.

Because in college, he was the best zone read QB ever. He was unstoppable.

But of course, he has a five cent head.

Interesting. Would you think that it would be too “Democrat”
if associations of successful ex-pro athletes help to guide young
pros in investing some of their new found, instant wealth? That
sounds pretty shrewd don’t you think?

My definition of friend is someone you can call for bail money at 3am and they don’t ask what you were arrested for.

I like it!

My definition is that a true friend would not put you in that situation of calling you at 3 am in the morning and asking for bail money.

And yes, the first question I would ask is what in the world you were doing at 3 am in the morning that would cause you to be arrested? I would most likely suggest that my "friend" should talk to a a lawyer first before asking me for bail money. Why would he not go to his own family first, unless they have been burned by him on previous occasions?

I don’t think he does. He was drafted after his junior year, and decided to go pro instead of finishing the degree first. I know he supposedly went back a few years later, but I don’t know if he actually managed to finish it or not.

My Brother called me once for bail money. He had been arrested several times for the same behavior. Driving under a suspended license, DUI.

He didn’t like my response. 25 years later he still doesn’t have license.

Some people you just can’t fix!

1. Declare bankruptcy
2. Blame concussions
3. Sue
4. Spend like a drunken sailor again

And

5. Blame all your troubles on racism.

I think pro sports leagues need some sort of trust system so athletes are unable to blow through their salary in a few years.

Of course. No need for people to be responsible for themselves. That's what the government is for.

My definition of friend is someone you can’t call for bail money at 3am because he is sitting right next to you in the cell.

I hope you don’t take everything so serious in life...it was a farce. and for what it is worth, my family is all deceased if that is a factor.

I never would have thought it could be done like that with so many ‘safeguards’ built into banks’ systems. Bug duh on me.

Well, this was the early 80's and I am sure it's changed considerably. Suffice to say, he still got caught.

I got that phone call at 3 am. My buddy asked me to wire him a fair sum to Malaysia. Didn't even blink. Sent him the money, he paid it back and threw in a nice rug when he got back. It seemed to have involved some kind of gambling loss and theft, but he was a little shy about details, so I assume he got rolled.
