I prep for economic catastrophes. This doesn't mean that it would be a huge crash, but something as simple as if I were to lose my job and not get one for some time.

Minor natural issues happen too - the heater going out, etc.

That seems to be a major drive for many of the preppers.
I would, however, resist piling up vast reserves of food and other daily goods, when flight might be the only course of action. Now, I would put economic disaster in America high on the list to prepare for.
