I don’t know exactly how to characterize this, but there is a new campaign to highlight crony capitalism (or the portmanteau that I like to use–crapitalism) . This campaign–The Kronies– uses youtube clips and specially designed 80s style action figures.

“Crony Capitalism” is, in fact, socialism.

“Now, legal plunder can be committed in an infinite number of ways. Thus we have an infinite number of plans for organizing it: tariffs, protection, benefits, subsidies, encouragements, progressive taxation, public schools, guaranteed jobs, guaranteed profits, minimum wages, a right to relief, a right to the tools of labor, free credit, and so on, and so on. All these plans as a whole — with their common aim of legal plunder — constitute socialism.

Now, since under this definition socialism is a body of doctrine, what attack can be made against it other than a war of doctrine? If you find this socialistic doctrine to be false, absurd, and evil, then refute it. And the more false, the more absurd, and the more evil it is, the easier it will be to refute. Above all, if you wish to be strong, begin by rooting out every particle of socialism that may have crept into your legislation. This will be no light task.”

— Frederic Bastiat, the Law, 1850

The only thing I didn’t agree with was the demonisation of Tariffs.

Which is a catch-22 situation as one of the governments prime source of income SHOULD be Tariffs but instead since we have an income tax that kinda blows that all to crap.

So while we need Tariffs in order to actually balance the trading between countries of economic status that are different, ie. China vs. US trade, we shouldn’t have them between countries like say Canada and the US.

Of course “Big-G” no doubt uses Tariffs like Obama would, punishing our friends and helping our enemies... You know like China...

Tariffs can be an abused political tool, but they are one of the methods of federal funding that the founders prescribed.

The issue isn’t Big Business, it if the Big Government/Big Business Industrial Monopoly Complex.

Big Business will lobby for laws that on the surface appear to “Punish them evil big businesses” but in reality are nothing but Bureaucratic roadblocks for all their small to medium sized competition whom they wouldn’t be able to compete with if the playing field was level.

One has to wonder how many Bills that on the surface seem to punish big business but actually when you examine them closely indirectly benefit them by eliminating their competition.

I quite agree -- someone once put it this way "when politicians determine what is to be bought and sold, the first thing bought and sold is politicians."
