OK folks, this whole winter is getting out of hand. I write from the frostbitten thumb of the enchanted mitten, otherwise known as Michigan. I went to go to lunch a couple of hours ago and it was -1 out with a strong south breeze that puts the wind chill at about -30. I shudder to open my next heating bill. I should be able to tell it from the other mail by weight alone. We have absolutely smashed the January snowfall records (at approx. 38" if I recall) and there still a few days left to bulk up the record a little bit. we are in the top 5 for coldest January on record and are on track to reach even higher. I also have the county road commission on speed dial. For the second time in a 2 week period the plow has absolutely decimated My mailbox. I found my mailbox 2 houses down with My mail scattered about it in a 15 foot blast radius. And in the middle of all this one of My fur-babies died (kitty). I'm not looking for sympathy. I'm just venting and maybe looking for just a little commiseration. So how are you holding up in this frigid season?
We’re expected to hit 80 Thursday. Which is exactly why my family fled the snowbelt in the mid 70s.
This winter is an icy lump of suckass.
Should’ve probably used a liner for the cowskin gloves this morning [shrug]. It was -10F.
You are so mean. ;) I, too, am a refugee from the cold here in Tucson.
I lived in your part of the world for awhile.
You do get used to a 40MPH wind out of the due north. Eventually.
Now is the winter of your discontent?........................
I’m going to guess the same roads running into your state also run out ...?
1-800-algore. Send some of that white stuff out west will ya? Sierra Nevada mtns are dry as a bone. Expecting some winter type precip this week but we need a WHOLE lot more. Didn’t even get under 40 last night in norther NV.
If this Globull Warming keeps up, we’re all gonna freeze to death!.................
To add to it, seems to be a lot of disgusting illness being passed around too
In my area of Southern California we are expected to be in the high 70’s this week. However my house has not seen a drop of rain so far this January. May be the driest January on record. We shall see.
Quit yer whinin. It was nearly 250 Kelvin in Michigan this morning.
All in all, no complaints, yes its cold, but we have had some insanely mild winters for quite a while now.... Due for some cold ones (everything in cycles).
What I am enjoying is that the insulation and things I did over the course of those milder winters definitely are paying off now that we are having a bitter one again. Sure still going to be a higher than normal heating bill, but way less than it would have been had I not done all those little things.
Besides, lets face it, its JANUARY/FEBRUARY, its supposed to be cold, we’ve just been spoiled because we’ve had some very mild winters for quite a while now.
Nah, they just lay there on the ground..................frozen in place.................
At least I'm not having to mow my lawn.
There’s a reason why the snowbelt is losing population: winter sucks. And mocking those you left behind is part of the fun. The first 3 years after we moved here Chicago had record snowfalls, we really enjoyed watching it on TV and calling our relatives.
I’ll admit, Tucson is having an unusually awesome winter, around Christmas it was looking like we might be in for some unpleasantness but that changed with the year.
We arrived at work this morning to find that the heat had failed overnight. It was being fixed, but until about noon I worked with my coat, stocking hat, and gloves on. I'd already dressed in layers, as the building has not been all that warm with the heat on!
Friend of ours who lives in the country said the plow turned around before getting to their part of the road recently.
