Nice. I made my own ghillie suit for the Pacific Northwest. Lots of forest where I live when not in Australia.

My front focal plane Vortex Viper, 6-24x50mm just came in today. It will be going on a Remington Sendero 300 win mag. let’s just say, I absolutely agree with the premise of the article.

Instead of listening to yet another so-called "expert" blather on and on, get yourselves to an Appleseed shoot. Lots of people (yours truly included) go into Appleseeds thinking they're hotshots, but come out with the unsettling realization that they're not nearly as good as they thought...that I thought. But even if you don't qualify the first time, you'll take away all sorts of knowledge and new skills that will help improve your shooting the next trip to the range.
Here's the link:

#1. Military defense works orders of magnitude better in a group.
#2. Chose a faction, and become part of an organized force.
#3. If you fail to accomplish #2, have a grave ready for when they take you out with mortars after spotting you with thermal optics.

Very thought provoking. This is a bit beyond me, at my age, but it’s certainly food for thought. And he’s quite right. If you’re going to be out there surviving, and defending your family or community, then sniping makes a great deal of sense.
The Swiss come to mind, as well as the Finns.

Lots of information on shooting ... WHICH IS NOT THE PRIMARY JOB OF A SNIPER.
There needs to be much more focus on camaflage, concealment, movement, navigation and radio communication. The primary job of a sniper is intelligence gathering through observation and reporting, engaging the target is only a small part of the job.
That being said, improving marksmanship is always a good skill to work on.

I have no useful first hand knowledge but I have seen 2 movies.
In “the Patriot” (Mel Gibson), there is an unwritten rule where the snipers don’t fire at the officers. Gibson breaks that rule, killing a great many British officers angering Cornwalis but also demoralizing his army.
In “Enemy at the Gates” is the real story of a Russian sniper in WWII who kills a great many german officers.
Apparently, snipers have been despised because the snipers fire once which reveals their location and then the sniper moves on to another location. So snipers pick high value targets like Generals which makes them valuable but despised members of the miltary.
