I-95 Corridor Target of Sunday-Monday Storm
AccuWeather.com ^ | February 1, 2014 | Mark Leberfinger

Another storm is poised to bring disruptive snow Sunday night into Monday to the Interstate 95 corridor from Washington, D.C., to Philadelphia, with lesser amounts expected in New York City.

A low pressure system will track along the cold front that brought milder air into the mid-Atlantic on Saturday and strengthen, AccuWeather.com Senior Meteorologist Dave Samuhel said.

It will throw snow Sunday night into the mountains north and west of Washington, D.C., and just in time for the morning rush hour in the nation's capital and Philadelphia. The storm may cause hazardous road conditions in the mountains and I-95 Corridor and force flight delays and cancellations.

The storm will move quickly, wrapping up by Monday night, but not before leaving 1 to 3 inches of snow in Washington, 2 to 4 inches in Philadelphia and up to 1 foot of snow northwest of the cities, Samuhel said.

Snow could start before noon Monday in New York City, but after the morning commute, with possibly 1 to 3 inches accumulating.

Any snow would add already above-normal snowfalls in New York, Philadelphia and Washington. As of Saturday, Philadelphia is well above normal with 37.1 inches; the average snowfall for December and January is 9.6 inches.

New York City has 28.3 inches of snow, compared to an average 11.8 inches, and Baltimore was at 13.7 inches with an average of 8 inches.

Just got it here in Michigan. 6” where I’m at. Am sitting in bed with leg propped up due to a nasty fall at work (ice, damnit). Heavy, wet stuff. Easy to shovel but very slippery. We got 39” total here In January. Looks like February is off to a roaring start.

Sounds like just another winter storm that we have at this time of year. I think the weather people like to raise the bar and make these storms seem more than the norm for winter weather.

However the cold we had was indeed COLDER than the average...at least for a longer duration.

I’m no expert, but I’m thinking the Spring of 2014 will see some pretty major floods across this country.

Odd storm going across Michigan—I’m in a lower strip of weather than you two. Just a small amount of snow and true rain, not freezing rain.It warmed up to 44 here (lowest SE corner) as of 5:30 pm, but now it’s dripping/snowing and heading toward 20 degrees. I-C-Y. The water really doesn’t have anywhere to go.

Think I’m going to avoid driving to church tomorrow.

Based on how the ground must have warmed up yesterday and today, I am guessing that the snow will not really accumulate much. Probably the biggest problem on the roads over the next few days is the freezing of slush after sundown.

Actually, washing your car before a snowstorm is a good thing to do. Get all that salt and gunk off your car before another snowstorm makes it even harder to get off later.

Hey, I washed mine today. Sometimes, there’s just too much road salt on your vehicle.
