All the Royal Family did was save Europe back in the 1940’s, bring the US into the war against Hitler, and then help rebuild Europe after it was over.
They also helped pull our heads from our posteriors on wartime intelligence, passed vital technology on (radar), and then helped defeat the Russians in the Cold War.
But hey, its just the Royal Family. I might also add that the Queen knows full well what a git his oldest boy is and kept the job longer than she wanted to spare the world, and her own conscience, the indignity of a King Charles.
No royal family, no Churchill. No Churchill, and you might be speaking a different language.
For all the grief the French take for their collapse in WWII, I don’t think anybody living today can appreciate the toll WWI took on the French.
In 1938, the French were considered the best professional army in the world. WWI shattered the French. Were it not for the British Expeditionary Forces in France, it would have taken the Germans five weeks to fold instead of nine.
I read a biography on Churchill that really brought home to me how WWI affected the French. By 1938, the average Frenchman just wanted to be French and live in the French way, and didn’t really think German rule would change the day to day for the average Frenchman. If freedom meant another WWI, they were willing to try occupation.
Once the Queen dies it will be up to the Princes, because Charles is understood to be an idiot by everyone. He’s worse than Joe Biden, if that’s possible.
Can’t assume those things wouldn’t have happened without royals. The brits seem to want them, so be it.
One more thing the Royal Family taught the US: Fighting our wars on anybody else’s soil beside your own is infinitely better than the alternatives.
This is what is so frustrating about moving away from the doctrine of two-theater wartime preparedness.
I guess the West Coast is expendable, or the East Coast, or more likely the South.
